About Cedar Hollow Volunteer Fire Department
Covering 85 square miles of eastern Taney County, on call around the clock.
How we started
Cedar Hollow Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1974 because this part of the county had no fire protection of its own. Help was a long way away, and neighbours decided that was not good enough.
The first trucks were personally donated by members and converted into fire apparatus by hand. Everything the department runs today was built the same way — by people who live here, paid for by people who live here.
How we are funded
Entirely by donations. The department carries its own insurance, liability, and workers’ compensation, and every piece of equipment and every operating cost comes out of what the community gives. There are no salaries — everyone here is a volunteer.
Who we work with
Rural fire response is a shared effort. We run mutual aid with neighbouring departments and work alongside the county sheriff’s office and state forest service — which means the trucks you help buy also turn out for fires well beyond our own boundary.
